Mildew Repair
Mildew Removal & Repaint
Mildew treatment, surface preparation, and mildew-resistant repaint for lasting results in damp areas.
Overview
Mildew on walls or ceilings? It needs more than paint.
Mildew on a bathroom ceiling, a basement wall, or the north side of a house isn't a paint problem — it's a moisture problem with a paint symptom. Painting over mildew without treating it just hides it for a few weeks before it bleeds back through.
We treat mildew the way it needs to be treated: clean and kill the existing growth with the right antimicrobial, address the surface contamination, prime with a mildew-resistant primer, and repaint with a paint formulated to inhibit future growth.
Our Process
Kill, seal, prevent.
Affected areas are first cleaned with a diluted bleach or commercial antimicrobial solution. We let it dwell long enough to actually kill the growth, then rinse and let the surface dry fully before any paint touches it.
Once dry we apply a stain-blocking, mildew-resistant primer — Zinsser Perma-White Mold & Mildew-Proof or Kilz Mold & Mildew — and follow it with a topcoat that has built-in mildewcide. We also identify the moisture source so the problem doesn't come back.
What's Included
What mildew repair includes.
Mildew remediation painting is quoted per affected area with treatment, primer, and topcoat itemized.
Antimicrobial Treatment
Bleach solution or commercial antimicrobial applied with proper dwell time to kill existing mildew at the root.
Surface Cleaning & Dry-Out
Cleaned and rinsed, then dried fully before priming — mildew comes back fast if you paint over damp surfaces.
Mildew-Blocking Primer
Specialty primer with stain-blocking and mildew-inhibiting properties applied to all affected surfaces.
Mildew-Resistant Topcoat
Final coats with a mildew-resistant paint formulated for damp environments — bathrooms, basements, and shaded exteriors.
Materials & Finishes
What we use against mildew.
Zinsser Perma-White and Mold Killing Primer for interiors. Sherwin-Williams Pro Industrial Pre-Catalyzed Epoxy for high-humidity rooms. For exteriors, Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior, which carries a 5-year mildew resistance warranty.
We never paint over mildew without killing it first — that's the entire reason mildew comes back through repaints.

Why Pristine
Why mildew comes back for other painters.
We treat first, paint second.
Skipping the antimicrobial step is the most common mistake. We always kill the growth before priming.
Real mildew-resistant products.
Standard paint with a mildew additive isn't enough in chronic damp areas. We spec specialty products rated for the conditions.
We identify the moisture source.
Paint can't fix a moisture problem. We point out the ventilation, leak, or drainage issue causing the mildew so you can address it.
Timeline & Planning
Project length.
Most mildew repaint projects run two to four days, including the cleaning, dry-out, and full coating schedule. Larger basements or multi-room remediation may run a week.
