Exterior Painting
Exterior Painting — Siding, Trim & Doors
Weather-resistant finishes built on real prep so the topcoat lasts through every Midwest season.
Overview
Exterior painting built to survive a Midwest winter.
Exterior paint in northern Illinois has to deal with everything — freeze-thaw cycles, hard sun on south-facing walls, summer humidity, driving rain off the lake, and salt spray near the road. The finish either survives all of it or it doesn't, and the difference comes down almost entirely to prep.
We do exterior repaints the slow way. Pressure wash. Scrape loose paint. Sand edges. Caulk gaps. Replace failing wood where needed. Prime bare spots with the right primer for the substrate. Then — and only then — do we put two coats of finish on the house.
Our Process
Real exterior prep, not a quick spray.
Every exterior project starts with a wash. We low-pressure wash the entire painted surface to remove dirt, chalk, mildew, and loose material so the new paint has a clean bond.
Then comes the scrape and sand pass. Loose paint comes off, edges are feathered smooth, and any soft or rotted wood (window trim, fascia, garage door trim) is identified for replacement. We caulk gaps at trim, window casings, and corner boards with paintable exterior caulk.
Bare wood gets a stain-blocking primer. Bare metal gets a rust-inhibiting primer. Only then do we put two finish coats on — usually one sprayed and back-rolled, one rolled by hand — for full even coverage.
What's Included
What an exterior project includes.
Every exterior quote lays out prep, repair, and finish work as separate line items so you can see exactly what you're paying for.
Pressure Wash & Surface Cleaning
Whole-house low-pressure wash to remove dirt, chalking, and mildew before any paint goes on.
Scrape, Sand & Caulk
Loose paint scraped, edges feathered, and trim gaps caulked with paintable exterior-grade caulk.
Spot Wood Repair
Small rotted areas of fascia, trim, and window casings replaced or filled before priming.
Prime & Two-Coat Finish
Bare wood, metal, and patched areas primed correctly; two full coats of weather-rated exterior finish applied.
Materials & Finishes
Exterior paints we trust in this climate.
Standard exterior paint is Sherwin-Williams Duration or Emerald Exterior, and Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior — all rated for northern Illinois freeze-thaw cycles and warranted by the manufacturer.
For metal (railings, doors, garage trim) we use DTM (direct-to-metal) acrylics. For decks and porch floors we use deck-specific stains and coatings, not wall paint. For brick and stucco we use elastomeric coatings that bridge hairline cracks.

Why Pristine
Why our exterior work lasts.
Prep is the whole job.
We don't skip the wash, scrape, sand, and caulk steps. That's why our exterior finishes last as long as the paint warranty says they should.
Right product for the substrate.
Wood, metal, stucco, and brick each need different paint chemistry. We spec each surface separately.
Hand-applied finish coat.
We spray and back-roll where appropriate, but the final finish coat is hand-rolled or brushed so the paint is worked into the substrate and reads even from the curb.
Timeline & Planning
Exterior project timing.
A typical exterior repaint runs four to eight working days, weather permitting. We schedule exteriors April through November in the Chicago suburbs — outside that window the temperature swings and surface moisture make a long-lasting finish impossible.
